 Custom Grips by William Bryant

William Bryant is becoming well known in the Auto Mag world as THE aftermarket and custom grips creator: his work is superior in quality to any. William goes to great lengths to assure that fit and function is perfect. And cosmetics? Well let's just let the pictures tell that part of the story...

We are happy to announce that we have reached an agreement with William to sell his grips through our site as a service to our customers.

William uses everything from composites like Micarta and Dymondwood to exotic natural woods in order to offer a vast array of unique styles. Although the Micarta and Dymondwood stay very similar from grip to grip, exotic woods will always vary due to the very complex grain of the wood itself, which is part of what gives these grips their "one of a kind" appeal.

All grips are available in standard stock configuration while finger grooves can be incorporated as an upgrade.

These grips are available in Micarta and Dymond Wood composites and natural wood such as Walnut, Cocobolo, Buckeye Burl, Purpleheart and Amazon Rosewood. Please contact us if there is another wood you would like your grips made from.

Lead time for stock colors starts at 3-4 weeks but can go a bit longer depending on the configuration ordered and availability of materials. Prices are subject to change due to the market price of the materials.

Grips are available for immediate order in the materials, styles and colors listed below. If you wish to order in a natural material, in one of the composites with a non-stock color, or want other customization, please email us or use our handy Contact Form. Please be sure to include a complete description of what you want, including material, style, color and any other pertinent details and we will provide you with pricing just as soon as possible.

NOTE: Many of the grips shown above are samples or one-of-a-kind custom items. As with any custom item, the grips you receive will have their own unique appearance unlike any other. Grips identified as Automag III grips fit Models III, IV & V.

New Product - Auto Mag Owner's Manual, 3rd Edition

Auto Mag Owner's Manual 3rd Edition

Once again, Brian has updated his unique Auto Mag Owner's Reference Manual and released this THIRD Edition, containing even more new and updated information about the Auto Mag than the Second Edition.

If you have read the Baby Auto Mag story, or are just an AMT firearms aficianado, you know that Brian Maynard, founder and owner of Maynard Arms Company, worked for AMT for several years, and very shortly after starting there he designed the .22LR 'Baby Auto Mag' utilizing his intimate knowledge of its big brother, the.44 Auto Mag. That depth of knowledge comes through in every page of The Auto Mag Owners Manual.

The Reference Manual consists of 166 pages of indispensible information including loading data, tuning tips, case preparation, maintenance, parts / service / repair sources recommendations, all from highly reputable sources.

It also includes several old out-of-print gun magazines articles including the June ’84 Guns & Ammo article 'Dirty Harry’s Baddest Magnum,' the June ’85 Baby Auto Mag cover story, and a whole lot more. A must for any Auto Mag enthusiast or collector.

* * * SPECIAL OFFER! * * * Purchase the Third Edition of The Auto Mag Owner's Reference Manual and the The Auto Mag Shooter's Manual and save $5.00 off the individual product prices and $6.00 off US shipping for a total savings of $11.00.  The Auto Mag Shooter's Manual

The Auto Mag Shooter's Manual

Although The Auto Mag Shooter's Manual was printed least three different times over the years with different issue dates, it was virtually the same manual each time. From the introduction of the first 1971 Pasadena edition to the Harry Sanford Commemorative version, the format and content of the Manual did not substantially change. This reproduction was scanned from an original 1971 edition and we did our best to reproduce the authentic look and feel of that original. The only change we made was to reproduce the orginal fold-out schematic on the inside front cover. Other than that, it is identical to the original. No matter if you own an original Pasadena model, one of the Harry Sanford Commemoratives or anything in between, this manual will provide you invaluable information about your Auto Mag.

New Product - Limited Edition Auto Mag Barrels

Custom Auto Mag Barrels

Introducing our newest offering, limited-edition custom reproduction barrels for the renowned Auto Mag pistol. Over a year of planning, engineering and painstaking efforts have produced what some in the industry are calling the best thing that has happened in the Auto Mag world since AMT's limited production of the Harry Sanford Commemorative Auto Mag packages.

During the prototype phase we produced 20 barrels in .357AMP, .44AMP, .45 Win Mag and a new caliber, the .45 Stark. We are pleased to report better than expected results from our firing tests - accuracy was far better than the originals and ballistics were excellent across the board. Please Visit our Media Room to see some of our firing tests.

These barrels offer many features not available in the originals. Our engineering staff left no stone unturned to find the ultimate materials for durability and efficiency. Our rifled barrel blanks are obtained from highest quality manufacturers in the country, and are made from 416 stainless steel material to ensure the best accuracy and durability. These barrels are produced on the latest and greatest CNC (Computer Numerically Controlled) equipment using state-of-the-art techniques that were unheard of when the originals were produced. Each barrel is individually hand finished, ensuring precise head spacing as well as a collectors-item appearance

The receivers are made from billet 440A stainless steel, a limited-run, expensive alloy that has proven to be the best for Auto Mag barrel extensions. Our time-consuming custom heat treating process creates the toughest and hardest receivers imaginable, receivers that can take all the punishment Auto Mag rounds can dish out.

The accelerator kits are made from S7 tool steel that is virtually bullet-proof due to our high-spec heat treating process.

Standard calibers offered at this time are: .357AMP, 41JMP, .44AMP and.45 Win Mag. Barrels are also available in these custom calibers: the .40KMP developed by Eric Kincel and Brian Maynard in 1991, and the latest Kincel-Maynard collaboration, the .8mm KMP.

Each caliber is offered in 4-1/2" "BackPacker" style, 8-1/2" "Clint" length and the new 7-1/2" length that we introduced a few months ago. All have full length ribs with the original rear sight configuration and ten line grooves reminiscent of the original 'Dirty Harry' Auto Mags. Custom lengths are also available.

Barrels start at $1,595.00. Order yours today to secure your place in history - only time will tell how long these limited-edition barrels will be produced. Approximate time from order to shipping is 4-6 months - perfection takes a little longer... Sorry, but shipping outside of the US is not available.

Please email us , call us at 503.758.5913 or use our handy Contact Form to place your order or if you have questions about our custom Auto Mag barrels. Please be sure to include your phone number if you email us or use the Contact Form. Thank you.

New Service - 8 1/2" Full Vent Rib Conversion

Before Conversion
Before

After Conversion
After

I started in the Auto Mag barrel conversion business by converting standard 10-1/2" silhouette (short rib) barrels to the "Clint length" 8-1/2" Full Vent Rib barrels after "Sudden Impact" debuted in 1984. There were a lot of those barrels floating around at the time and I contracted with numerous clients who had acquired 10-1/2" barrels for the sole purpose of converting them to the 8-1/2" configuration. After a while the barrels became scarce and interest waned. However, over the years conversion jobs continued to come my way, and my skills in this area improved with each one.

In 2012, I was approached by two good friends about doing some barrel conversions, and since I needed to develop new tooling for the project anyway, what better way to develop the tooling than to build it around existing barrels?

As a result, I am happy to offer this service to anyone wanting to convert their .357AMP, .44AMP or .45WinMag 10-1/2" barrel to an 8-1/2" Full Vent Rib 'Dirty Harry' styel barrel. The front sight will be removed and the barrel cut down to 8-1/2". The partial rib will be removed and the barrel fitted with a full length 8-1/2" vent rib with integrated sight and the 10 line serrations featured on the original 6-1/2" barrels and the "Sudden Impact" pistol.

The cost for this service is $750.00 per barrel plus insured Priority shipping. If you would like to have your barrel converted, email us , use our handy Contact Form, If emailing us or using the Contact Form and you would like us to call you back please be sure to include your phone number and the best time to call you.

The preferred payment method is by using the 'Add to Cart' button below (please be sure to contact us immediately after placing your order). You may also pay by personal or business check, or money order. No Certified Checks, please.

We would also be glad to convert your barrel to another length on a special order basis. Please contact us to discuss arrangements and pricing.

New Product - The Life & Death of Auto Mag

The Life & Death of Auto Mag

For the last 8 years I have been working on the Auto Mag book production! Chapter 1 is now complete and ready for sale! Lots of folks have been watching its progress via my AutoMagHeaven website. Many have felt excitement with the knowledge that an author would publish the total book of Auto Mag. Its title is:

The Life and Death of Auto Mag
Harry W. Sanford’s Bold Adventure

The first volume, From Dreams to Reality, spotlights the people involved with the germ of an idea for a powerful, high velocity cartridge. The final pistol would be of Stainless Steel and be a semi automatic handgun. The idea P38 frame morphs into trial and error, culminating in the production of the number 001 Auto Mag. You’ll enjoy seeing all of the frames and parts of these formative times. Lots of photographs of frames, parts, important people, and XP Auto Mags will keep you enthralled. Early documents and text by your author will keep you reading.

The pricing for this labor of love will be twofold. It is available in an 8 ½ by 11 inch size and an 11 by 17 inch size. Each one will be identical except for the size. The cover page sports a hand calligraphied title and is adorned with a 3D print, which does not need 3D glasses to view. Two sided heavy weight photo paper is used throughout. All components of the book are of the highest possible quality! I’m sure you’ll agree after you pick it up.

  Auto Mag: The Pasadena Days

Bruce Stark's Book The Pasadena Days

Bruce's book chronicles the development of the Auto Mag pistol made in Pasadena, California from Harry Sanford's concept of the first stainless steel semi-auto magnum pistol to the bankruptcy of Auto Mag Corp. The Auto Mag would eventually be made under 10 different names, but the Pasadena guns were the earliest. Some say they were the most beautiful handguns ever made. Harry's design was a first in so many ways that it soon became an industry landmark in handgun design.

The project engineer, Robert Barbasiewicz, kept a day-to-day notebook concerning the development of the gun during the experimental period. It's all here including the associated drawings and factory memos. The .45ACP Auto Mag is discussed along with pictures of some of the guns. The engraved guns are also discussed, based on extensive interviews with the man who had them made, Bill Chizar.

The final patent that was issued for the gun is here. A massive ad campaign generated even more sales than were hoped for and all the ads for it are here. Ever wonder what happened during the bankruptcy? Many questions are answered here, but many more arise. 146 pages long, 8' X 10.5', soft cover. Over 40 pictures and over 90 drawings and illustrations.

Price is $35.00 + S & H to the US and Canada. Please allow 1-2 weeks for delivery in the United States, 2-3 weeks for Canadian delivery. For delivery to other countries, please email us or use our handy Contact Form. For shipping inquiries, please provide us with your address information, preferred shipping method, etc. so we may accurately calculate your shipping costs, and be sure to specify the product you wish to purchase.

 FAIL SAFE Safety Levers

Fail Safe

Maynard Arms Co is now offering FAIL SAFE Safety Levers and Hold Open Assemblies, as they were originally designed for the Auto Mag pistol. Before the infamous #30 clip was used to secure the Safety Lever and Hold Open, the original design incorporated the use of a small #2-56 Button Head Cap Screw for both. Most are not aware of this fact.

Modification to your existing parts are only $35.00/ea or $60.00/set + S & H. This price includes the #2-56 Stainless Steel Button Head Cap Screw for each. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions.

Note: Due to supply issues, our Fail Safe Levers are currently on backorder. If you would like to be notified when they are available again, please send us an email and we will put you on our notification list. We apologize for this inconvenience.

 #30 Clip Installation Tool

Auto Mag Tool

If you own an Auto Mag and have had the experience of trying to install a new #30 clip to the safety lever and hold open, you've most likely found yourself very frustrated. This the hardest thing to do upon reassembly. Well, not any more thanks to the Maynard Arms #30 Clip Installation Tool. The tool is designed for and with the novice in mind, but will also be appreciated by the experienced Auto Mag owner. The pin is the key for getting that clip installed on the first attempt. The end of the pin is beveled to help in centering it onto the safety lever and hold open pins. There is also a "staging ring" at the end of the pin for the #30 clip to fall into until you're ready to push it into place.

These are my original designs that I created after trying to reassemble an Auto Mag for the first time. I personally feel that this tool is superior to any other out there and is a necessary staple for anyone who does their own work on an Auto Mag. I've incorporated a staging ring at the end of the pin to hold the clip in place and a beveled tip for centering.

Price is $25.00 each + S&H. Please allow 1-2 weeks for delivery in the United States. For delivery outside the US, please email us with your address information, etc. so we may calculate shipping costs. Please be sure to specify the product you wish to purchase.

THIS POPULAR ITEM IS TEMPORARILY OUT OF STOCK. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO BE NOTIFIED WHEN THEY ARE BACK IN STOCK, PLEASE EMAIL US AND WE WILL LET YOU KNOW WHEN THEY ARE AVAILABLE AGAIN. THANKS FOR YOUR PATIENCE AND UNDERSTANDING.
